Our Priorities
MDRC's priorities are directly linked to our mission statement. We have focused our efforts on specific areas directly impacting the lives of people with disabilities in the state of Michigan.
MDRC’s mission: “MDRC cultivates disability pride and strengthens the disability movement by recognizing disability as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity while collaborating to dismantle all forms of oppression.”
People with disabilities encompass a diverse range of identities, including religious minorities, people of color, individuals from various social and economic backgrounds, immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ+ individuals, and many others. We advocate for justice and equality for all, and we do that by focusing on the needs and experiences of those with disabilities who are most oppressed. Our communities possess the strength to collaborate together in solidarity against hatred and intolerance, which adversely affect us all.
If you share the belief that individuals with disabilities should have the opportunity to live fulfilling lives within their communities, enjoying equal rights, equity, and access to opportunities while being recognized as essential and valued members, embracing their complete identities in all aspects of life, and having the space for self-discovery, cultivating community, and fostering pride, we invite you to join us in utilizing our collective power
